I am here to tell you that writing your personal history is very do-able! I have proved it to myself.
I had always wanted to record the stories of my life but writing is not one of my skills. I had no idea where to begin and was afraid that I would leave out important parts of my life, while other parts I didn't even want to write about. The whole project seemed way to difficult and I did not have the energy to deal with it...so I didn't!
Then my mom, at 87 years old, expressed the same feelings. She said she was afraid to die because she would be forgotten. It was really bothering her that she didn't have any written records of her life. This is when it became real for me - there had to be a way that we could simplify this for her. I googled everything I could find on the subject, I read articles and other peoples histories, and took classes, and I talked to professional historians about my questions. I found so much good information that I combined it all into a simplified process which helped me coach my mom as she wrote 72 short stories of her life. She wished she had done it years ago because some of the stories were missing some of the memories, but she did the best she could and her whole family loves and cherishes her book. In fact, her stories come up in family conversations now. It has been a win-win for the writer and the readers! :) Since then I have helped several others with this process, and it's working for my personal history too. Here is a photo of my mom's book, she seriously hugs it every time she picks it up...

I would love for YOU to have a book with all your stories in it. I have created a list of some of the tips that helped my mother write her stories and I hope they will help you as well. You can find it right here:
