Are you that person that doesn’t want to start something new because you are afraid it will consume you?

So many times I don't start a project until I have a huge window of time to complete it. Yes, I am that person who, once the momentum is going, I can’t stop because I can’t afford to lose that momentum because I may not get it back, so I need an enormous amount of time to complete some projects AND who has that?

I used to think this about writing my personal history. I didn’t start it because I didn’t have that huge block of time that I thought I needed.

If you think the same about writing your Personal History then look no further, I have the answer …

When you break down your Personal History into several short stories that stand on their own, You don’t need a huge block of time to get it done. This makes it so easy for you to stop and start whenever you need to.

So take 15 minutes (set a timer), and write down as many story ideas as you can remember from your past. As you think back in time, it might be hard at first, but one memory will lead to another, and another...until you have a whole collection of story ideas.

Now it's time to write...

Here are 2 ways to help you accomplish this:

-1-

Carry your list of story ideas with you and when you have a few extra minutes of time, whip out your list and choose a story and begin typing it on your personal device or with a paper and pen. I like to use the “Notes” app on my phone because I almost always have that with me. (I’m actually using it right now to type this email and then I transfer it to my computer by email and send it out to you.

-2-

The next way, and most reliable way, is to set aside a small window of time every day or week or month to write your stories. Choose a time when you mind is clear and you can concentrate. Pick a story idea from your list and begin writing. If you stick to your schedule, before long, you will have a collection of stories from your past that will be a treasure for your family members.

You really can do this, and I promise you it will be so much easer than trying to find a time when life settles down (I don't know that it ever will). The sooner you write your stories, the more you will remember the details.

Happy Memory Making!
