I want to help you write about the hard memories from your past. I sincerely think that we should write about them. Here are a few reasons why:
Others can learn so much from our tough experiences, especially if they are going through the same things. They can also find strength from your experiences.
You will find purpose from these experiences and be able to identify your growth from going through hard things, if you pay attention and look for them.
If you can embrace your hard story you might find that it is therapeutic to tell about it. You can gain so much insight into why something happened the way it did.
Sharing your stories can have an “unburdening effect”.
When you can admit your feelings and fears, it is easier to except them and get past them.

Difficult stories can be challenging, especially if you are still carrying a lot of hurt and/or anger. Only you can decide if you are ready to tell the story from a place of learning/acceptance of the experience. I hope these bullet points can help with decide if you are ready to tell a hard story…
If you are still living in the middle of your difficult story, wait until you get through it. It will be easier to tell when you know the outcome.
If you are feeling angry, negative and/or victimized, you might consider waiting until your emotions and feelings calm down before you begin.
If your motive for telling the story is to make someone look bad, then wait until you can tell the story without those negative feelings.
If you think your story will hurt the readers, it's not time to tell your story.
If you think it's time to tell a difficult story, then this handout will help you write it so it can benefit the readers as a source of strength or inspiration for their own lives. Click on the button below to download it:
