This is a photo of me when I was in my early teens. We were building an addition onto the back of our house. I had my brother take this photo of me holding the shovel so I could pretend I dug this hole. I thought it was so funny at the time and it still makes me laugh when I look at this memory.

You've probably heard "A photo is worth a thousand words." Well, I am here to tell you that's true, and in a different way - let me explain...

When I look at this photo in detail, I can come up with so many stories to write about:

  • The boat on the left - I could come up with lots of stories of memories with the boat

  • The garage - where my dad kept all of his tools and every once in a while he would clean so we could park our car in there AND I could roller-skate. I have some funny memories of my roller-skating days.

  • The kitchen window on the right reminds me of the table just inside and the memories we had sitting around the table long after dinner was over and hearing my dad tell stories from his past.

  • The corner of the house about the window is where huge icicle's would hang. They would get so big that they would touch the ground. This reminds me

  • The purple shirt I was wearing was in a bag of gently worn clothes (we called them hammy downs) that a neighbor brought over for me. I felt like I had a brand new wardrobe.

  • The wheelbarrow.....

Hopefully you get the point. If you are wondering where to begin and what to write about. Just find an old photo and examine if for memories. You will find that one story can lead to another pretty easily.
