I am finding, as I write my personal stories, memories come to my mind that I haven’t thought about for a very long time, and this has made it really fun. I also had an experience recently where I wrote about a more difficult memory and as I wrote about it, I felt a weight had been lifted and I could see the lessons I learned and the strength I gained from that experience. It no longer seemed like a burden to me.

The process of writing your personal history can be so therapeutic. Claiming the memories from your past and writing them down helps you realize that your experiences, good and bad, contribute to who you are today, and when you write them down you accept them as your own and you can see the way in which you grew and were strengthened by them, and this can give you a sense of empowerment and relief.

And remember…you don’t have to share all your stories with others, until (or unless) you are ready to.

Writing our personal histories is not only good for our posterity, but it can be a wonderful experience for you too, as you work through your memories and understand them better.

Happy Memory Making!
