Are you worried that no one will want to read your stories?

I get it! I felt this way about my own stories. My kids don't seem to be too interested in them right now.

I promise you down the road your stories will not only be a treasure for future family members, but as you get older, I know your kids will be so happy to have some stories from your life.

Don't base writing your stories on how others feel about them right now - THAT WILL CHANGE! When you’re gone your kids will treasure your stories more than you can even imagine because that will be the one connection that they will always have with YOU! Writing your stories helps you "live on" in their lives.

And speaking of connections...Bruce Feiler, in an article for the New York Times, summarizes a study about the resilience of children: “The more children knew about their family’s history, the stronger their sense of control over their lives, the higher their self-esteem and the more successfully they believed their families functioned. [It] turned out to be the best single predictor of children’s emotional health and happiness.” (Taken from an article by Rachel Coleman). Just another great reason to write your stories!

There are so many good reasons to write your stories!

I encourage you to write them now because you will remember more, and you will be able to tell a better story when it’s fresher on your mind. The best time to tell a personal story was yesterday the next best time is right now. Just start with one short story - the one that will be the most fun to write about, and see where it takes you.
